Jones 1 (PK104-29.1) from my own backyard
In October and November 2012, I captured a series of images of the planetary nebula Jones 1, located in the constellation Pegasus, from my own backyard. This faint and extended nebula, also known as PK 104-29.1, is a challenging target due to its very low surface brightness and delicate filamentary structure.
The data calibration and registration were performed with DeepSkyStacker, while the final image processing was completed in PixInsight.
The resulting image reveals the ghostly, circular shell of the nebula. Capturing this planetary nebula required long total exposure times and careful background extraction, but the result beautifully showcases one of the more elusive planetary nebulae in the northern sky.

The images were taken with the following equipment:
- Date: 2012
- Location: Krefeld
- Telescope: 10″ TS-Newton
- Focal length [mm]: 1140
- Focal ratio: 4.5
- Mount: Skywatcher NEQ6
- Camera: Moravian FW8300
- Filter: R:G:B:[OIII]
- Exposure time [min]: 135:120:125:155
- Resolution: 1.29″/px
