IC 2220 (Toby Jug Nebula) – VdS Remote Hakos and Tivoli
IC 2220 the Toby Jug Nebula is a reflection nebula in the constellation Carina.
I photographed this object for the first time in 2015 at the Tivoli Astrofarm in Namibia in LRGB. In 2024 I saw images on Astrobin which show a shell in Hα around this nebula. So I took the opportunity as a member of the VdS remote observatory group, to use the VdS remote observatory in Hakos, Namibia to take some additional images in Hα. The telescopes at Hakos were operated by Jost Jahn.
Data calibration and registration and the final processing was done with PixInsight.
First I want to show the combination of all the LRGBHα images:

The images were taken with the following equipment (VdS Hakos 12″):
- Date: 2024
- Location: Hakos, Namibia
- Telescope: TS 12“ Newton-Astrograph
- Focal length [mm]: 1391
- Focal ratio: 4,56
- Mount: 10Micron GM3000
- Camera: Lacerta DeepSkyPro2600 (mono)
- Filter: Hα
- Exposure time [min]: 165
- Resolution: 0,56″/px
The images were taken with the following equipment (Tivoli):
- Date: 2015
- Location: Tivoli, Namibia
- Telescope: 12“ ASA-Astrograph
- Focal length [mm]: 1076
- Focal ratio: 3.6
- Mount: ASA DDM 85
- Camera: FLI ML 8300
- Filter: L:R:G:B
- Exposure time [min]: 120:60:60:60
- Resolution: 1.04″/px
While taking Hα-images with the 12″ Newton in Hakos, the TAK was running in parallel.
Data calibration and registration and the final processing was done with PixInsight.
